Dolores O’Riordan, lead singer of the Cranberries, tragically overdosed accidentally last month. When Tika and I were in Seattle Friday morning, our first driver of the day was playing Linger in the car. I took this as a good sign; I loved the band as a kid, and this is my favorite Cranberries’ song.
The unexpected news was jarring the following Monday on Martin Luther King Day. I cried as I spent my last few moments in our beach house, staring out at the water. The Cranberries were a staple of my childhood. One of my earliest memories I can recall is singing Linger at the top of my lungs on the way to the beach with my Mom when I was three years old. This song will always have a special place in my heart, for real.
Linger was also one of the first songs I learned on guitar. I never got to see the band live, but their music will always remind me of my childhood. It’s the 90’s legends such as the Cranberries, STP and Sound Garden that are so nostalgic. My heart breaks every time someone from this era passes away.
Rest easy Dolores O’Riordan. 💔 Your contribution to music lives on forever.
