Trying to backtrack to life pre-graduation is proving difficult. This trip feels like it was months ago, and it’s only been three weeks! Here’s what I know for sure: We lazed around with Keegan’s family, dropped our diets and ate till our heart’s content, enjoyed the slower pace in Rapid City. My favorite outing to the Hotel Alex Johnson provided us with epic views, tasty appetizers and artisan beverages. What a swanky way to round out our trip.

I think Keegan got sick of me singing Hotel California, but it seemed appropriate at the time. This retro establishment deserves a tune of its own; between the Native American art and symbolism and alleged haunting in room 812, the historical context of this hotel thrusts you into the past whether you like it or not.

As always, our trips to South Dakota are filled with food, fun and laughter. But what made me really happy besides spending Thanksgiving with Keegan’s family was finding a cast iron skillet on sale for $18. Talk about a steal! I don’t do Black Friday like I used to, but braving the nonexistent crowds in Rapid City was so worth it.
