Two Saturday’s ago, we hiked Red Feather Lake Northwest of Fort Collins, not too far from Wyoming in the Roosevelt National Forest. With several trails to choose from, we went with Mount Margaret and hiked to Dowdy Lake at 8,100 feet. We made it three miles with Buddy while Keegan ran back for the car. This is sadly our last decent hike with Buddy–we’ll still walk him twice a day, but he’s getting too old to do much more than a mile.

While Keegan fetched the car, Buddy and I strolled along the lake. We came across a large herd of cattle, baby ducklings and a weird bug that freaked me out. Several kids wanted to pet Buddy, which is never a problem. Lord knows he loves the attention. Once Keegan arrived, we unpacked our picnic supplies. Between the fruit, proscuttio, mozz and basil roll, plus the chips, crackers, cheese and chocolate, I passed out in the car on the ride back. This was such a relaxing Saturday–I wish we could picnic more often!!
