Tomorrow’s my birthday, and I’m not ready to let go of 27. It was such a good year! But alas, all good things must come to an end.
I worked out 4 days in a row last week before pulling a muscle and calling it quits for the weekend. My personal trainer taught me how to use several machines and nearly killed me Monday night, but someone has to challenge my laziness. I planned on working out today, but I was too hung over. So it’s back to the grind tomorrow, on my birthday.
Honestly, I love going to the gym. My confidence has grown, I’m making new friends and learning new things with every trip. Even though I inadvertently injured myself biking 5 miles without warming up the day after I met with Christa, it’s nice to develop a baseline and work towards improvements from there. 5 miles in 28 minutes isn’t great, but it’s a jumping-off point, and I was proud of myself for not giving up.
Besides that, we hang with Jason, Sonya, Christine and Jimmy pretty frequently. We played Risk on Friday night and drank copious amounts of Bitch wine.
The following morning, Keegan told me to be ready by 9:00 a.m. He took me to the Denver Cat Company where we sipped on coffee and played with cats. Then, we played in tumble bubbles and had lunch at Beau Jo’s Pizza in Idaho Springs. As if that wasn’t awesome enough, we enjoyed our first IKEA experience, followed by coffee at Stella’s in Denver.
When we got home, I noticed my friend Josh’s car parked in front of our house and figured he was playing video games with my roommate. I walked in and asked “Is Josh here?” Chris looked at me with no reply and suddenly, my friends popped out from around the corner and yelled SURPRISE!!! I was shocked and startled. How the fuck did Keegan manage to pull this off?! I couldn’t believe it.
I thought my birthday would suck this year, since we moved to another state. It’s my first birthday away from home. In August I wondered if we would have friends by now, and we do. I drive in the snow like it’s nothing, using my GPS less and less. Fort Collins almost feels like home.
The weird things I noticed earlier suddenly made sense. The tortilla chips hiding in the garage, Keegan insisting we clean the house before we left that morning and how late he was getting home Friday night. I was impressed with how many people he reached without a Facebook account and how well the party was planned. My husband is the best.
School starts back on Thursday and my internship begins in about 2 weeks. I’m super grateful to gain experience at Keegan’s second job. So maybe we’ll see each other more often than we have been during the week.
I know this year will fly by, and I have a good feeling about it. By the end of 2016, I’ll have a master’s degree, a mortgage and a healthy appreciation of the gym. In the meantime, I’m trying to focus on the present moment and be grateful for what I have. Blame it on the new year and my birthday, but my optimism is always overflowing in January.
Birthday Dreams ^^^^
