New Years Resolutions for May sounded exciting to accomplish as the 31 Day Challenge developed. The idea revolved around creating 31 things to do for fun by the end of the month. “No more excuses”, I thought to myself, such as blaming my full time job and responsibilities for “not giving me enough time”. I brainstormed and listed 31 interests to pursue, expecting to indulge in one activity per day, which did not turn out to not be the case. While 2 items remain incomplete, a few days knocked out 2 birds with one stone (such as World Turtle Day at Barfield Park). Follow this link to read more about the challenge and review a few photos from the month posted below, in no particular order. Couldn’t take pictures for every assignment (who really wants to see a pic of me learning more about CSAs?) but captured some great moments during vacation.
Learning how to make time for hobbies and adventures in May felt exhilarating but exhausting. Seems like I’m just as happy as I remained in April, but The Happiness Project encouraged me to accept challenges and practice time management techniques. My mantra has become “I always have time to have fun”, a fundamental change in the way I think and lead my life. All I want to do is study positive psychology, garden, work on DIY projects, go camping, drum, ride camels and spend time with my cat. Plus make candles and bath salts, run a 5k, move, decorate, skydive, zipline and hike. Is that too much to ask? Like everyone says, aint nobody got time for that. Or do they?
Living in a “not enough” society may lead one to believe fun can wait. As soon I wake up, tired, I think “not enough sleep”. Don’t feel like exercising…not enough energy. Too much housework …not enough time to relax. Contrary to popular belief, however, plenty of time exists to enjoy activities you look forward to. I’ve learned that keeping a daily planner helps; it hold me accountable and reminds me of the tasks I need to complete. May Resolutions ultimately taught me to lighten up. Looking forward to developing, strengthening and maintaining new and old friendships next in June.
